Ever since I started work on Pathmaker, I’ve enjoyed creating it’s many character models in my signature ‘Block Style’. I’ve since used this style to create models for HERO v HERO, Silver the Hedgehog, and HERO x HERO… as well as just for fun.
I chose this style because I wanted something free and limitless. As a programmer first and foremost, I wanted to be able to create animations that got the point across without being constrained by realistic physics, so I chose simple blocky models with a Rayman-style lack of limbs. This allowed me to animate my characters with extreme cartoony logic, performing impossible motions that make sense for the weird and wacky games they inhabit, and most importantly, it allowed me to bring all of my characters to life: something I previously thought to be impossible due to my own specialised skillset.
